10 African Leaders Who Died In Office Under Mysterious Circumstances

It is uncommon for a President to die in office, but here in Africa the rate seems to an extent high and hence the need to take a look at some of the African Presidents that have died while in office. Ten African Presidents died while in office over a 4 year period from 2008 to 2012, 2012 being the worse year of Presidential deaths. Below are the top 10 Presidents who died of mysterious causes.

1. Michael Sata (77) – Zambia

Michael Chilufya Sata was the fifth President of Zambia, from 23 September 2011 – 28 October 2014. He is the latest African president to die in office. He was the president of Zambia till October 2014, when he died of throat complications.

2. Meles Zenawi Asres (57) – Ethiopia

Meles Zenawi Asres was the Prime Minister of Ethiopia from 9 May1995 until his death in 20 August 2012. From 1989, he was the chairman of the Tigrayan Peoples’ Liberation Front (TPLF).
The government said he was taken ill suddenly and died in Belgium while undergoing treatment. His health status had been an issue before his sudden death.
